Crime and Punishment

Justice or Revenge? Rethinking Crime and Punishment

Crime is part of our social reality, but how we react to it defines our values. Many people believe punishment is necessary to protect society—but is it always effective?

Punishment can include jail time, community service, or fines. But what about rehabilitation? Helping people understand their mistakes and change can be more powerful than revenge.

Let’s think about these questions:

  • Does everyone deserve a second chance?

  • Should the justice system focus more on restoring than punishing?

My opinion: I believe that punishment should not be only about suffering. It should teach people and give them tools to grow. Justice should be fair, not cruel. It’s better for society when people return with better behavior and mindset.
